By tim, on October 28th, 2009 at 1:43 pm I said halfway through the course I’d be writing to the course team with an evaluation of the experience of studying ED209. I’m currently trying to gather my thoughts on this topic (so please feel free to make your own observations in the comments) with the aim of writing them a letter over the weekend. So far, I’ve decided I need to say something about the following topics.
Positives
A far more interesting and engaging course than I’d feared at the start. My job doesn’t involve working with children (and neither do I want to!) and both my girls are . . . → Read More: Evaluating ED209
By tim, on October 24th, 2009 at 12:49 pm There’s a large ED209 shaped hole in my life at the moment. DD303 doesn’t start until January 30th next year, though I see from my Open University homepage that the materials will be with me sometime before Christmas. An early start for DD303 appeals in exactly the same way as it did for ED209: in other words, absolutely essential, if I’m going to get to the end of the course in time for the exam.
As I’ve now managed to successfully move my blog to its shiny new location I’ve got lots of new toys to play with, so I . . . → Read More: What next?
By tim, on October 21st, 2009 at 6:10 pm ED209 is history! Time for a nice cold beer.
By tim, on October 20th, 2009 at 12:34 pm This is getting tough. 26 hours to go before the exam starts and I still don’t feel I know enough detail about as many of the chapters I would like to. This morning I’ve been writing essay plans for questions that have appeared on past papers. Some of them seem to be ok; others I’m still having to rely far too heavily on my notes and the books to produce something sensible for my liking. Still, if similar questions do come up tomorrow, I might just be able to remember some plans now!
I’m currently going through my notes on . . . → Read More: ED209 – 26 hours to go
By tim, on October 17th, 2009 at 9:29 pm I’ve spent quite a lot of today revising. That is, apart from a couple of hours fighting through the crowds at Asda (someone please remind me never to go there on a Saturday again) and subsequently using the bucket and sponge and the other lovely cleaning materials I purchased to give Huffty a wash. Compared to all of the other cars I’ve owned, she’s definitely high maintenance. But she’s lovely. <contractual obligation>Just like But not as lovely as all of the other beautiful women in my life</contractual obligation>.
Anyway, I’ve re-written the plan for my seen essay again today and . . . → Read More: ED209 – 4 days to go
By tim, on October 16th, 2009 at 9:00 am I’ve just about conquered my fear of all things biological and evolutionary and revised chapter 6 of book 1. I’m glad I have – I think as its so well ordered I could answer questions on it. If nothing else, Baron-Cohen’s ideas on ToM could help with a book 3 answer if that chapter comes up.
So what to do with the remaining time? I’m concentrating on book 1 chapters today (long train journeys this early in the morning are very useful!) and will spend time over the weekend with the seen question essay (again). The remainder of my time . . . → Read More: ED209 – 5 days to go
By tim, on October 13th, 2009 at 7:56 am … but were afraid to ask. I’ve just come across the October 2009 rules for examinations (I can’t remember seeing this in the last mailing, but I wouldn’t have bothered reading it back in May). All fairly common-sense stuff, but it’s nice to read it for a bit of reassurance. The potentially important E39 (special circumstances) form and rules are at the back of this document as well. I say potentially, as ‘the wife’ has been poorly with ‘flu like symptoms for the past 3 days … I’m trying to stay out of her way at the moment!
